Checkatrade’s kitchen cabinet spraying cost guide, in a table last updated in May 2024, puts an average UK kitchen respray at £800 to £1,600. It prices the work by facing, the front of a cabinet or integrated appliance, and gives these starting prices for wooden and acrylic cabinets.

Every facing price in Checkatrade’s table is a starting price rather than a fixed one. The table states no VAT basis, so ask every sprayer whether their quote includes VAT.

Acrylic cabinets need a special primer to prepare the surface before they are sprayed, Checkatrade’s kitchen spraying guide says. Tell every sprayer whether your cabinets are wooden or acrylic when you ask for a quote, so each quote allows for the same preparation.

Kitchen respray cost worked out by facing

To price your own kitchen, count its facings in the three kinds the table uses: standard cabinets, larder cabinets and the fronts fitted to integrated appliances such as a dishwasher. Multiply each count by its starting price and add the three together.

As a worked example on Checkatrade’s starting prices, a kitchen with 12 standard cabinet facings, 2 larder cabinet facings and 2 integrated appliance facings has 16 facings and costs from £1,320. That sits inside Checkatrade’s £800 to £1,600 range for an average kitchen respray.

Respray or replace kitchen cabinets

Spraying kitchen cabinets can cost up to 70% less than buying new cabinets, Checkatrade’s kitchen spraying guide says. A respray keeps your existing cabinets, and 70% is the most it saves, so your saving depends on the price of the new cabinets you would otherwise buy. Price both for the same kitchen before you decide.

Guarantees on sprayed kitchen cabinets

Some sprayers offer up to a 10-year guarantee that the paint will not flake, crack or peel, Checkatrade’s kitchen spraying guide says, and it advises choosing a tradesperson who will guarantee the quality of their work. Checkatrade’s advice on finding a decorator adds that most reputable decorators have insurance, many offer a satisfaction guarantee and some offer a limited-time warranty. Compare the guarantees alongside the prices when the quotes come in.

Getting quotes for a kitchen respray

Get at least three free quotes and compare them, Checkatrade’s hiring advice says, and move on from any decorator who wants a fee just to quote. Ask for a breakdown of costs so you know what is included and what is extra. Checking a sprayer before you book means reading their reviews, asking for examples of their previous work and asking whether they belong to a recognised national body such as the Painting and Decorating Association.

A sprayer prices the kitchen you describe, so give every sprayer the same count of facings by kind, say whether the cabinets are wooden or acrylic, and ask for their guarantee in writing.
